I played Cube World in alpha-stage before, granted I didn‘t buy it, but played it at a friend‘s place and I loved it.īeing able to explore a huge world, unique to it‘s seed-code and completely randomly generated was something fascinating and almost magical to me. I didn‘t have the money during the time the alpha was available to be bought, so I ultimately didn‘t get my hands on the original, however, now that CW came to Steam, I was excited, the nostalgia came up and I was happy I could now play this great game again, not only that, but now that it is on Steam, playing with friends would be as easy as clicking a button. Sadly CW is not what I experienced around 6 years ago anymore, I know a lot of people are enjoying the beta/release version more, than the alpha, which is absolutely fine of course, more power to them, but I cannot count myself to these people. I personally despise the new region-lock, the not anymore randomly generated map that repeats it‘s layout every so often, the absence of the fog of war and removal of the traditional leveling/skill system. To me, this game lost all of it‘s charme, it is no longer a vast, open world that invites you to explore it, but now it actively punishes you for venturing out too far, you don‘t feel like an adventurer on a grand exploration, but more like a vermin exterminator, cleaning one region only to go to the next to do your job all over again.
